Did your broker's spreads widen during Thursday 24 September's run of five releases?

Thursday 24 September had an unusually dense run of scheduled releases: three central bank rate decisions (Norges Bank, the Riksbank and the SNB) plus Australia's jobs report and Canada's retail sales, all within about eighteen hours (Norges Bank and Riksbank, SNB, Australia, Canada). Days like that are a real test of a broker's execution, since liquidity providers often pull back around scheduled news, which is exactly when spreads tend to widen.

The real cost of a forex trade covers spread, commission and swap in general terms, but the actual behaviour around a specific news pile-up is something only members who were watching that day can report on.

If you had a position open, or were watching to enter one, around any of these releases, we'd like to hear what you actually saw:

  • Which pair were you watching, and roughly how much did the spread widen compared with normal conditions?
  • Did it widen just before the release, during it, or only after, and how long did it take to return to normal?
  • Did your broker's platform show a re-quote, a slippage warning or anything else unusual?
  • Do you avoid entering new trades in the minutes around a scheduled release specifically because of this, or does it not affect your approach?

Please describe what you actually observed rather than a general verdict on your broker, and leave out account numbers and other personal details. Posts that promise returns or sell signals will be removed.
