Euro area industrial production dips 0.1% in July as consumer goods output falls
Output fell 0.1% in the euro area and 0.3% in the EU from June, Eurostat said on 16 September, with energy and capital goods rising but non-durable consumer goods down 1.6%.

Eurostat published its first estimate of July 2026 industrial production on 16 September.
The figures
- Monthly change: production down 0.1% in the euro area and down 0.3% in the EU, compared with June (which itself fell 0.1% in both)
- Annual change: stable in the euro area and up 0.3% in the EU, compared with July 2025
By category, month on month (euro area)
- Energy: +0.9%
- Durable consumer goods: +0.9%
- Capital goods: +0.5%
- Intermediate goods: +0.3%
- Non-durable consumer goods: −1.6%
By country
The largest monthly falls were in Denmark (−4.2%), Bulgaria (−2.9%) and Lithuania (−2.4%). The largest increases were in Luxembourg (+4.5%), Croatia (+3.9%) and Ireland (+2.6%).
Why it matters
Industrial production is a slower-moving, more volatile cousin of the PMI surveys, and July's figures show a factory sector that's essentially flat rather than clearly expanding or contracting: energy and capital goods output rose, but a sharp fall in non-durable consumer goods offset most of it. That sits alongside a euro area economy where inflation was confirmed at 3.2% in August (report) and where growth in the second quarter leaned heavily on net exports (GDP report). The next release, covering August, is due 15 October. Live prices: EUR/USD.
