ADP: US private employers add 90,000 jobs in September as hiring rebounds after a three-month slowdown
ADP's report, published two days before the official jobs figures, shows education and health leading and financial activities and professional services shedding jobs. Base pay rose 3.2%.

ADP's National Employment Report, produced with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, said on 30 September 2026 that private-sector employment increased by 90,000 jobs in September. August's total was revised from 38,000 to 36,000. ADP chief economist Nela Richardson called it a strong report: after a three-month slowdown, job creation rebounded and pay growth remained solid. Hiring accelerated for the first time since May.

ADP and the official figures
ADP's data come from the anonymised weekly payroll records of more than 26 million private-sector employees. They are a separate measure from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' survey, and the two often differ. Two days later the BLS reported payrolls up just 29,000 in September, with July revised to a loss of 10,000 (report). From this month ADP's figures incorporate the BLS's first-quarter Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages data.
ADP's next report, for October, is due on 4 November at 8:15 a.m. Eastern Time, two days before the BLS jobs report on 6 November. The Federal Reserve raised rates to 3.75%–4.00% on 16 September (report) and decides again on 28 October. How to trade non-farm payrolls covers how traders handle the cluster of jobs data.
