How many chart timeframes do you keep open at once?
Charts can show the same pair over a minute, an hour, a day or a week, and a trader can open all of them at once. Many new traders do, and then find that the charts disagree, which makes the decision harder rather than easier. The number of timeframes you keep open is a choice about how much conflicting information you want to read before each trade. Learn gathers the beginner lessons, which is worth checking before you set up your screen.
Members who keep fewer timeframes usually say they decide faster and review more clearly afterwards. Members who keep more say the extra charts help them see the context of a trade. The question is how many you keep, which ones, and whether the setup helps you follow your plan or pulls you away from it.
We would like to hear your setup:
- How many timeframes do you keep open at once, and which ones?
- Which timeframe do you ignore, even though it is open?
- Has a conflict between two timeframes stopped you trading? What did you do?
- What would you tell a beginner about the number of charts to keep?
Please share your own approach and reasoning, not calls for others to copy. Posts that promise a direction or sell signals will be removed.
