Would a short regional-survey summary box make FTC's factory articles easier to use? Tell us how you read them

FTC's factory data articles, such as the New York survey and the Philadelphia survey, start with the headline number, then list the components and close with why the data matter. We would like to know whether that works for you, and whether to add something.

One idea is a short box at the top that says what the survey covers, which region or sector, and what the headline means in plain words. Another is a line that compares the reading with the previous month, so regional readings are easier to judge against each other.

Other possibilities:

  • A note that says which measure is regional and which is national, so readers do not mix them up
  • A link to the survey's methodology page at the top, not only in the sources list
  • A short note when a survey and a national index moved in opposite directions
  • Something else you look for in a factory data article and cannot find

Tell us which of these you would use and which you would not. If you read on a phone, tell us what you see first and what you scroll for.

A related idea is a link to the survey's own page at the top of each article, so readers can check the source in one click. Would that help you more than a summary box, or would you rather have both?
