Do you see EUR/USD spreads widen at the London open? What do you do?
The London open is one of the busiest points in the day for EUR/USD, and spreads can change quickly in the first minutes as liquidity arrives. Market sessions explained shows when London opens and how it overlaps with the other centres, which is the reason the first minutes can look different from the rest of the morning.
Members who trade the open often decide in advance whether to act in the first minutes at all. Some wait for the spread to settle, others accept a wider spread for a fast move. The cost is easy to underestimate because it is paid once on entry, and a stop placed close to the quoted price can be hit by a spread that widens rather than by the market moving. Negative balance protection and client money covers another part of a broker's terms worth checking in quiet hours.
We would like to hear what you see:
- Do you see EUR/USD spreads widen at the London open on your broker?
- How long after the open do you wait before you place an order?
- Does a wider spread change where you place a stop?
- Which broker has given you the tightest spread at the open, and what did you check?
