Which industries
Car production rose 17.1%, after two months at a low level that Destatis linked partly to production changeovers and factory holidays. The pharmaceutical industry rose 8.0%. Construction output fell 2.6%, and machinery and equipment fell 6.5% after rising 5.8% in August. Excluding energy and construction, production of capital goods rose 3.0%, consumer goods 0.8% and intermediate goods 0.1%.
Production in energy-intensive industries rose 0.8% on the month but was 3.5% lower in the third quarter than in the second, and 1.9% lower than a year earlier.
Revisions
Destatis said August's large revision came from additional data from construction businesses in their advance turnover tax returns. Separately, monthly figures for construction and for other transport equipment were revised back to January 2021 to correct a technical error in the production index; the effect on the overall monthly change rates is between plus and minus 0.1 percentage point.
