Do you follow discussions by category, or by the members you trust?

Discussions on FTC are grouped into categories, such as beginners, strategy talk, broker experiences and the currency and gold rooms, and members can also follow others and see their posts in one place. Each approach suits a different kind of reader: a category shows the topics you care about, while following a person shows the view of someone whose judgement you have come to rely on. The question for this thread is which you use, and why.

Following by category shows every new question on a market. Following by person shows fewer posts, from someone whose judgement you have come to rely on. The site's feed of discussions is also available as an RSS feed, which some readers use to follow a category outside the site. Tell us how you keep up, and what would help you find more of what you want.

We would like to hear your habit:

  • Do you follow discussions by category, by person, or both?
  • Have you used the discussions feed outside the site? For which category?
  • What would make it easier to find the threads you want to answer?
  • Which category do you think needs more discussions, and what would they cover?

Please share your own view and reasoning. Posts that promise a direction or sell signals will be removed.
