S&P Global publishes its October flash purchasing managers' indexes for the United States, the euro area and the United Kingdom on 23 October 2026. The flash PMIs are the first survey read of the month, usually released a few weeks before the official figures.

## The last readings

In September the US composite PMI reached 58.4, a 62-month high, and the euro area and UK indexes were also reported in our [September flash PMI report](/news/flash-pmi-september-2026-us-eurozone-uk/). The US figure is the one to compare with other US data this month, including [the industrial production report](/news/us-industrial-production-september-2026/).

## What to watch

A composite PMI above 50 means more firms reported growth than contraction. The price components are watched as closely as the headline, because they show whether firms are passing on costs. The euro area's price readings matter for the ECB, which decides on 29 October.

## For currency traders

Flash PMIs often move currencies on the day, especially when they surprise. Read them together with inflation and central bank timing. For how PMIs are built, see [PMIs explained](/news/pmi-explained/). Live prices: [EUR/USD](/markets/eur-usd/).
